## ‘Greatest job he ever had’: Methuen officials announce death of Mayor Neil Perry Methuen Mayor Neil Perry, who had led the city since 2004, died Saturday at age 75 after a long illness. City officials announced Perry’s death in a statement, saying that he had been “a tireless advocate for the people of Methuen” and that he would be “deeply missed.” Perry, a lifelong Methuen resident, was first elected to the City Council in 1995. He served as council president from 2002 to 2003, when he was elected mayor. During his tenure, Perry oversaw a number of major projects, including the construction of a new high school and the renovation of the city’s downtown. He was also a strong supporter of the arts and education. In a statement, Governor Charlie Baker called Perry “a true public servant” who had “dedicated his life to making Methuen a better place to live.” “Neil was a friend and a mentor to me, and I will miss him dearly,” Baker said. Perry is survived by his wife, Carol, and two children.
